Rob Halford Says Metal Community Has Been Accepting And Inclusive Since He Came Out
In a recent interview promoting his new autobiography, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford discussed his experience as a gay man in the metal genre.
While his bandmates and management all knew he was gay and accepted him, he was steered toward keeping his life a secret from the metal world. “I’m not unique in the issue of finding your own sexual identity, but certainly the way I’ve tried to balance that in my professional working life as a musician was tough; it was difficult,”said Halford.
However, after coming out on MTV in the ’90s, Halford said that the reaction was positive. He says the experience “was the most perfect example of the way the metal community is so accepting and inclusive and welcoming people from all over.” Halford continued, “There are no labels on us in the metal community; we’re just all together.”
Halford’s autobiography Confess is out now, including an audio book version.
