• Sammy Hagar’s performance of his hit “I Can’t Drive 55” at Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race apparently fell short of a full tank for many race fans.
  • Although Hagar — who performed the song with former Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham — did a nearly flawless job, fans commenting online seemed to be less than impressed with the performance, with many calling out NASCAR for hiring a 73-year-old to entertain the younger race crowd.
  • “Coulda picked someone that is known to people under 50,” tweets a NASCAR fan named Ryan. Another calls the performance “cringy,” while yet another wrote, “This was dumb, embarrassing and went on waaaaaay too long.”
  • That’s not to say everyone has turned on Hagar. One fan tweets, “Sammy still rocks. So many years of dedication. He should be an inspiration to all those under and over 50.”
